BIO

I’m Yaxiong Shao, a filmmaker, photographer, and artist based in Southern California. For over a decade, my creative journey has been an exploration of light, sound, and narrative—capturing moments that are both fleeting and profoundly transformative.
I move fluidly between photography, cinema, podcasting, and multimedia art. In my visual practice, I strive to blend the narrative depth of film with the immediacy of photography, seeking those rare moments where light meets life. Whether working with the crisp resolution of digital medium formats or the rich textures of 35mm and 120 film on my Leica and Hasselblad cameras, my goal remains the same: to create work that resonates deeply and stands the test of time.
Alongside my personal artistic projects, my team and I offer a full range of professional photography and filmmaking services. From weddings, portraits, and family documentaries to brand campaigns, events, and narrative shorts, we bring a sharp artistic perspective and exceptional technical expertise. No matter the scale, we are dedicated to delivering distinctive, high-quality visual storytelling that celebrates every subject’s unique essence.
As the founder of Island of Many, I also curate cross-disciplinary creative projects and conversations. Through the podcasts Popcorn Chicken Cinema and Island of Many, I explore cinema, art, and the inner landscapes of the people and worlds around us.
At the heart of all we do lies a simple conviction: art and images—whether a single photograph, a film, or a story—hold the power to connect us. Whether you’re looking for a highly personal artistic collaboration or a large-scale production, my team and I are here to bring your vision to life, creating work that doesn’t just narrate but resonates for years to come.
